2019 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
Houghton was founded in 1836 by a syndicate of three British Army Officers and named after the most senior of the three — Lieutenant Colonel Richmond Houghton. Today, Houghton is one of Australia’s finest, oldest and most awarded wineries. The Houghton Reserve range, a fine selection from our premium reserve wines, epitomises Western Australia’s signature varietals.
The 2019 growing season got off to a strong start with adequate water resources available due to slightly above average winter rainfall. The spring that followed was dry across the south west and the driest spring on record for some coastal sites. The summer of 2018/19 was dry across the south west. Below average temperatures throughout
summer resulted in a later start than recent years, as a result the fruit and resultant wines have fresh flavours and bright acidity.
Machine harvesting at night ensures the fruit is picked in optimal conditions to retain freshness and flavour. Gentle processing of fruitpreceded cold settling and cool fermentation to ensure vibrancy and freshness is retained. A short period of lees maturation extends the palate texture whilst enhancing varietal style.
Brilliant pale straw with a youthful green hue. A fresh and intense bouquet, displaying lifted aromatics of passionfruit, kiwifruit and grapefruit, preserved lemon, white elderflower and hints of vanillin spice. Light bodied, the vibrant and juicy palate displays flavours of blackcurrant, lime segments and pink grapefruit. The palate is lightly textured from a short period of lees maturation. Vibrant acidity provides balance and freshness.
A wine to be enjoyed whilst youthful and fresh.
