Courtney Treacher

Courtney Treacher admits while she ventured into winemaking not really knowing what to expect, that feeling was quickly overturned once the art of turning fruit into wine became a reality.

Traveling through wine regions on family vacations, along with a keen sense of building a career with a difference; led to the decision in the latter years at secondary school, that winemaking was for her.

While studying a Bachelor of Science (Viticulture and Oenology) at Western Australia’s Curtin University of Technology, Courtney put theory into practice both in the vineyards of Perth Hills and Swan Valley and then in the cellars, doing a vintage in Margaret River at Redgate Wines. Graduating in 2002, Courtney then sought to extend her experience, with vintage in the Hunter Valley at Tamburlaine Wines.

She joined the Houghton Wine Company as a Cellar Hand at its Middle Swan site in 2004, before being appointed Vintage Assistant Winemaker early the following year. In September 2005, Courtney was appointed Assistant Winemaker.

In October of 2007 Courtney was appointed Winemaker and made responsible for Moondah Brook wines. In 2013 Courtney was appointed as the Winemaker/Manager of the Houghton Nannup Winery and as the winemaker responsible for Brookland Valley wines. Working in these roles she has had the opportunity to work with fruit sourced from all of the major viticultural regions of Western Australia and had the pleasure of making wines from premium hand-picked fruit. Courtney continues to enjoy being a part of a dynamic winemaking team and the challenge of making wines of varied styles under the Houghton, Brookland Valley, Moondah Brook, Goundrey, and Amberley ranges.

Courtney is now the Senior Winemaker for Houghton and Brookland Valley Wines.

Courtney has been involved in wine show judging at the Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne Royal Wine Shows, and was a scholar at the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial in 2011. She enjoys photography and travelling to exotic locations!

Principles of sustainability and respect for the soil and environment govern the management of our vineyard.
