Peter Dillon
Peter graduated with an Honours Degree in Agricultural Science (Oenology) in 2003 from the University of Adelaide. While at university, Peter worked vintages in two South Australian wineries and in the Hunter Valley NSW, at Rosemount’s expansive Denman site.
Impressed by the elegance and finesse of Western Australia wines, Peter was offered a job at Houghton’s through Larry Cherubino, then Houghton’s Senior Winemaker, By 2005, Peter was a full Houghton winemaker working at both Houghton’s Swan and its new state-of-the-art winery in Nannup. A year later in 2006, Peter was given responsibility for winery management and for winemaking at Goundrey Wines in Mt Barker. This extended Peter’s experience in handling cool climate vineyards
and aromatic varieties.
In September 2008; Peter took on responsibility for winery management and winemaking back at
Houghton’s Nannup winery.
Then in 2009, the year it was named James Halliday’s Winery of the Year, Peter took on winemaking
responsibilities for Brookland Valley in Margaret River. To date his involvement has to been maintain
the current hands-off winemaking style. The results speak for themselves with Brookland Valley Verse
1 Cabernet Merlot 2010 a four-time gold medal winner and Brookland Valley rated an 'Outstanding
Winery' with 5 Red Stars by James Halliday in his latest edition of The Australian Wine Companion.
Peter lives in Margaret River with his fiancée, also a winemaker. In his spare time he enjoys tasting
wine, cooking, mountain biking, and fly fishing. The magnificent Margaret River beaches have also
encouraged him to take up surfing.
